I made it through the first year! Hurrah! I've learned a lot this year... so much so, it could take me years to realise just how much I have learned! At the same time, this last term has been a bit of a nightmare for me. But nevermind, onwards and upwards. Off to Ecuador in just over a month! How crazy to think that its been almost a year since I was there!
So I've finished, and am at such a loss I'm tending to just lay in bed for most of the day, then wander around Penryn and Falmouth like a lost sheep, then return home, sit down in bed, watch documentaries and fall asleep! Crazy. I guess I need the rest. It doesn't however stop me from trying to learn spanish, and start painting rough botanical illustrations.
I'm striving to fit my more fine detailed style of drawing into an illustration context. So far I haven't had the chance to let my drawing skills shine through in my illustrations. My work in my sketchbook seems to be so far removed from my illustrations, you may be forgiven for thinking that the 2 are by 2 completely different artists! So I am setting out to rectify this by taking some articles from National Geographic, and deciding to illustrate them.
Here is the botanical painting/sketch of Strelitzia reginae otherwise known as 'Bird of Paradise'.

I'll continue to add to it, and do more botanical paintings :) In the hope of improving! In other news, some of my orchids are blooming back home in Plymouth, so some photographs should be taken soon, and if I get the chance, I'll draw and paint straight from the plant, how exciting!
I feel in limbo at the moment, most people are still working towards their assessments, so no-one wants to come out and play. So until people finish on Monday/Tuesday, I'm stuck! I head back home on Saturday, so that will be nice to finally be in a place that feels like my own. I can't wait to move to the new house in Falmouth in October. Then I can feel like in actually in Falmouth! Actually a part of the arty community instead of being stuck with all the Exeter students!
I'm looking forward very much to moving in with all my lovely new flatmates from illustration. It's going to be a good year, I can tell.
Ecuador... just over a month to go! CRAZY! Turns out I'm going to see Max the day after I land in Ecuador. So no exploring of Quito until the end of my trip then! Not that I'm too disappointed! I get to see Max much sooner. His brother Geranio has even offered to put me up at Yachana lodge for free in the staff quarters or in the Quest lodges. So that was a REALLY lovely offer of him, and I think I'll take it up! It means I get to be within 5 mins walk for Max, and I get to be on the beautiful river Napo near the jungle, and near football games! I may also get to see Chris and Andy from GVI, thats if they haven't gone back to England yet! I'm so excited. I should get a lot of painting done, and they have a butterfly house, so a lot of awesome drawing to be done there too! Not to mention the gorgeous plants and animals that hang around there! *Sigh* Heaven. Pure heaven. And the view from the lodge? Just pure romance. I also might get to see Max graduate after all! How awesome! I'm so proud of him.
Just a month of work to get over and done with, clothes to get for the trip, Hep A booster to have, and then zooooom! Off I go!
will update on the paintings more over the next week!
